Brighton Avenue Primary School s greatly saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Her tireless service to our country – from her early days as a dutiful young monarch to her later years as one of the world’s longest and most eminent serving heads of state – makes her a source of admiration.
We would like to express our sincere condolences; our thoughts are with her close family at this difficult time.
Happy New Year to you all!
Just in case you haven’t heard already, I wanted to share some very exciting news with you all.
Yesterday, in the Evening Chronicle, there was an article published from the annual Real Schools Guide about the best primary schools in the North East. We had no idea the article had been written but have been delighted to find out that our school is not only one of the best primary schools in the North East, we have actually been ranked No 1 school in Gateshead.
As you can imagine, we are absolutely delighted!
As I always say, we know we are the best school in the world (never mind the North East). However, to have that confirmed officially is absolutely fantastic.
Don't just take our word for it, click the link to see the article for yourselves

Dear Parents and Carers,
Alan Sergison
Chair of Governors
2013 - 2019
NON UNIFORM DAY – TUESDAY 12TH FEBRUARY 2019 – “BRIGHT RED”
Last week I informed you all of the very sad news that Alan Sergison, Chair Of Governors, had sadly passed away. Almost eight years ago, Alan was diagnosed with multiple myeloma: a blood cancer.
Currently, there is no cure for myeloma in any form. As with many other forms of blood cancer, the nature of the disease often means frequent, lengthy hospital visits for patients, as it did for Alan. As a school, we have decided to have a non-uniform day on Tuesday 12th February (the day of Alan’s funeral) in support of the amazing charity “Bright Red” which Alan was a great advocate of.
Red are an amazing charity based in the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. They support patients and families of patients with blood cancers by investing in research, diagnosis and treatments and providing practical support like supportive therapies and care grants for patients and their families. Their vision is to make the North East of England the safest place in the country, if not the world, to be treated for bloodcancers.
We would like our children and staff to come to school in non-uniform on Tuesday and wear something red in colour to show our support as a school. We ask for a voluntary contribution of £1 ( or more if you wish). All monies received will go towards this fantastic charity.
Best regards
J Allan
