Trips

Throughout the year, we will be going to many amazing and interesting places; as well as being visited by people who will share their knowledge with us. Please click on the links below to find out about each of our visits and visitors:

Able writers

This week Miss Potts took 2 of our Year 4 children and two of Y4M's children to Kelvin Grove for an Able writers workshop to meet award winning author Terry Caffrey. The children participated in numerous activities throughout the day to enable them to think about creative writing and how best to express their ideas. Terry was very funny and we had lots of laughs all day! Some of the children also bought his book and had it signed! Take a look at some of our pictures from today!

Gateshead College

This week the Year 4 children were lucky enough to participate in three workshops at one of Gateshead colleges campus'. The children spent the day exploring different engineering aspects. The first workshop was programming a robot, they had to input different data to make the robot move in different ways. The children were amazing at this and the man who ran the session was astonished at how well they did! The second workshop was spray painting a piece of metal, the children all wore their protective clothing and had a try spraying. Although it was not actual paint the children still experienced what it would be like. Finally the third workshop involved a car. The children had a try of inflating and deflating a car tyre and jacking a car up. This was a great experience for the children and we all had a fabulous day!

That History Bloke

On Wednesday 12th June Y3/4 were visited by ‘That History Bloke’ where the children participated in a range of activities linked to The Vikings. Throughout the session, the children were able to hold some real life Viking artefacts, play typical Viking games and learn to write their names using the Viking letters. Everyone was really shocked at how different their names looked using the Viking alphabet. Some children were lucky enough to dress up as a Viking but were surprised at how heavy the armour was to protect them.

Warburtons

This week the children were lucky enough to experience a Warburtons workshop with a lovely lady called Gail! The children explored different aspects of healthy eating and spoke about the importance of hygiene whilst handling food! The children were then able to create their own sandwich, some children even tried some new foods! The best bit was they  got to eat it! Take a look at some of our pictures!

Life Centre

On Tuesday 30th April, Year 3/4B went on a trip to the Life Centre where they participated in an emergency relief workshop. The children learnt about different natural disasters and then they had to create a shelter. They were given some card and tape to build their shelter and then they had to test the strength of it under different situations. Once the workshop was finished, the children enjoyed a ride on the 4D motion ride, visiting the planetarium and watching a science show. In addition to this, the children got to spend time in the curiosity zone where they completed different challenges. The children really enjoyed their day and want to visit again soon!

Beamish

The children had a great day at Beamish Museum where they participated in a workshop as an evacuee. The children learnt about how to survive on the basics and how to protect themselves. However the best part about the day was the sweet shop! The children loved trying a range of different sweets. They were delicious!

Gateshead Library

On Monday 28th January, Y3/4B visited Gateshead Library to change their reading books. Whilst on the trip, the children listened to some funny stories and learnt how to find books located around the library.

BBC Broadcasting Newcastle

The cameras were set for action, the news stories had been prepared and as the clocks counted down Y3/4B were ready to step into the shoes of a news reader and a weather presenter. We went inside ‘The Pink Palace’, as the building is affectionately known, where Look North, Sunday Politics and Inside out is filmed. Whilst in the Look North studio, the children got to meet Colin Briggs, who is the BBC breakfast and lunchtime news reader, and they asked him questions to further their knowledge. The children also learnt about how radio shows were made and what it takes to be the perfect weather presenter. Our children had the opportunity to have a go at being a weather presenter and some children found it harder than they thought it would be. Some of the children were fortunate enough to meet a few celebrity guests including Anthony Rutherford (former Strictly Come Dancing competitor) and Dave Johns who starred in I am Daniel Blake.  All the children had a fantastic time and want to return again!

Rosewood Care Home

Y3/4B visited Rosewood Care Home on Friday 14th December 2018,  to sing Christmas carols. The children and the residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The children enjoyed meeting the residents and were very appreciative of the chocolates we received from them.

Vue Cinema

On Monday 12th November, the children visited the Vue Cinema to watch 'The Greatest Showman' as part of the Into Film Festival. The children all loved the film and loved singing along!

We visited Gateshead Library to choose a book to take back to school. Before we got chance to chose, the librarian talked us through how they categorise and order their books. We were set a challenge to find fiction and non-fiction books under a given number or letter. At first it was quite tricky finding the non-fiction books but by the end we were all pros!

Stig Live

Year 3/4 had the opportunity to attend Gateshead Library to participate in a Stig Live event. Some of the children were lucky enough to participate in some of Stig's challenges which were very amusing although don't speak to Miss Brown about sausages! Above are a selection of photos from his workshop.
