Year 5LM

Welcome to Year 5M!

Judging by the first day of school in September, Ms Morgan and Miss Hindmarch know that we definitely have the best class in the whole school! We would like to welcome you to the wonderful world of Year 5 learning, which is full of fun and laughter, with a heavy sprinkling of hard work and a few spoonfulls of achievement and pride in our excellent work.

Five is fantastical, fabulous, faithful, fascinating, far-reaching, fearless, feel-good class! (We do love alliteration too!)

Welcome to our Pupil of the Week section. Take a moment to browse through our fabulously, fantastic children, as they have all amazed their teachers this year.

Learning about life cycles

We LOVE our visits to Gateshead Library

Mental Health Week. We have been exploring how we can improve how others feel, as well as how we feel. Some very lovely notes have been left on people's desks today, to tell them how special they are.

Our finished air raid shelters!

Year 5 have had a busy week, researching, planning, sawing, cutting, designing and building a strong air raid shelter. They researched how to make the walls and roof strong before they started to build. See the results next week!

What a fantastic visit we had to Durham University's Oriental Museum today. The children learnt so much. Just ask them!

Red nose day was a blast and circuit training was fun!

Pizza perfection! In outdoor learning this week, we have learnt how to cook on a fire. Yum!

We are artists! We have been looking at the futuristic work of artist Teis Albers. We created a collagraphy plate to print from and added our ideas of what the future may bring. Take a look below!

This week we had a visit from a real astro- physicist from Northumbria University, who knew everything about space! We asked so many questions!

Look at Zuza's amazing facts about Mars! Well written and beautifully presented.

This week we have been using our knowledge of the Solar System to make fact file Power Points.

Planetary palaver! In science, we are learning all about our solar system. We took our learning outside but unfortunately, our yard wasn't big enough to get a true scale of the distances involved!

This week, we have taken our learning outdoors. We had great fun in the forest school area, AND learnt how to whittle wood safely with a sheath knife.

This week we completed our design Technology textiles project, with the help of the artist Rosi Thornton. Our inspiration came from the visit to the Lindisfarne Gospels when they came to Newcastle.

If you're ever injured and need to be carried somewhere, Year 5 can make you a stretcher ... just be careful who you choose to make it!

Want to know about how we know so much about the Myan civilisation? Ask Y5!

Year 5 have been honing their tag rugby skills, they really have worked hard, got muddy and run for miles!

Year 5 visited The Laing Art Gallery to see and learn about the famous Lindisfarne Gospels.

Not sure what the 16 most important Hindu samskaras are? Ask Year 5!

Y5 have produced some truly outstanding self-portraits this week, using their own ideas and styles. We think some of them should be in the Tate Modern!
