Supporting your child with handwriting

At Brighton Avenue Primary School, we have a big emphasis on helping the children to join their handwriting. In Y1, at the beginning of the year the children participate in a range of fine and gross motor activities to build their muscles before moving on to three handwriting lessons a week when the children are ready. In Y2 and KS2, the children have three or four handwriting lessons a week to enable them to join their letters properly. The whole school follows a scheme where the children focus on ensuring ascending and descending letters are the appropriate size. Children are able to achieve pen licenses as soon as they can join their letters and their letters are a consistent size. Take a look at some of the videos to help support your child at home with handwriting. If you have any questions regarding handwriting, please speak to a member of staff.
