Year 5S

Welcome to Year 5S class page!

BANG!

You have just arrived at the best class on EARTH'S page! This year in 5S, we will be going on a huge journey with our learning. We will be working incredibly hard but also having a lot of fun too!! Please check back regularly for updates on all the exciting things we will be doing this year!

One last goodbye!

Hi my lovelies!

I cannot believe I am writing this but I wanted to write a final message to say goodbye and I hope you have the most amazing summer holiday whatever your plans are!! I am absolutely devastated that our year together was cut so short because I really believe it would have been even more fantastic than it already has been! I am so excited to see you all as big Year 6’s, you are all going to smash it – I have so much faith in every single one of you.

I know how hard this past few months have been but I want to say a big well done to all of you who have been completing the home learning tasks and working hard at home. Also, a huge well done to your parents, carers and family at home who have been helping you with your learning! Thank you so much as always for your ongoing support. I have absolutely loved seeing all the amazing things you have been getting up to during lockdown, the photographs you have been sending in have really put a smile on my face!

Please remember that you can achieve ANYTHING you set your mind too and always remember my favourite quote ‘Why fit in when you were born to stand out?!’ REMEMBER THAT! Every one of you are soooo unique in your own special way and I feel privileged to have been your teacher. I have already told Ms Morgan and Mrs Graham what an amazing bunch you are!! We would be breaking up from school today for the summer holidays and writing this I feel so sad that we aren’t all getting excited together in our classroom, dancing around like loons to timber!!

Have the most amazing summer holiday and I will be ready to welcome you back with open arms in September!!

Take care everyone!

Love, Miss Simblet and Mr G xxx smileyheart

Calling all KS2 Eco-Team members!

Even though we cannot meet with Riddhi and our fellow team members, we can still think about our Eco-Team project and looking after our fantastic planet.

With this in mind, how about making an Ecobrick? Here’s some reasons why:

  • An Ecobrick can be used for furniture, walls and even full scale buildings!
  • An Ecobrick uses materials that would otherwise not be recycled.
  • When made correctly, it can be re-used itself and contains plastics which might otherwise end up damaging the environment.

So, are you ready for the challenge? Then find an empty plastic drinks bottle, (less than 600ml capacity), wash it out, leave it upturned to dry and start collecting some materials.

A great site to visit is https://www.ecobricks.org

This gives lots of information on how to make the perfect Ecobrick!

Ecobricks in action

Please remember:

  • All plastics used within your Ecobrick must be first cleaned and dried.
  • They may need to be cut smaller to fit in the neck of your bottle; make sure this is done carefully and ask an adult for help.
  • You need a stick or wooden spoon handle to pack your bottle as tightly as possible.
  • Use only non-recyclable plastics that your local Council collection will not accept.
  • Ensure the correct weight (minimum 200g for a 600ml bottle); this is a long term project which takes weeks to complete.
  • Enjoy the project!

World Book Day

Today, we had an amazing day celebrating World Book Day in our pyjamas and dressing gowns! Some children did tell me they had just rolled out of bed that morning! We started the day with an assembly by Seven Stories and then moved swiftly on to exchanging second hand books. We decided it would be more fun to wrap our books up and write what we liked about them without giving away the title of the book. After, we went outside and then hid our books around the playground and we had to go and read the messages left by our peers to decide if we thought we might like the book. We then came back inside and did a book scavenger hunt in the library. The children all became really competitive! After lunch, we had a visit from Natasha, from Seven Stories, who played some games with us and read some books. We have had a great day!
