Assessment in SPaG
At Brighton Avenue, SPaG is taught on a daily basis through the teaching of English. Pupils are given SPaG starters at the beginning of each writing lesson which then link to their success criteria for that particular session.
Spellings are given on a weekly basis and reviewed at the end of each half term. Children are taught both the spelling rules and expected spellings for each year group (see spelling document below).
All SPaG content reflects the statutory guidelines published in 2014 and an overview of these requirements (which the staff use to inform their own planning, assessment and progression) can be found below:
