The Duchess of Cambridge online assembly on mental wellbeing among children.On Thursday 18th June at 11am, the Duchess of Cambridge will lead an online assembly for the Oak National Academy during which she will speak about the importance of mental wellbeing among children. The theme of the Duchess’ assembly is ‘spread a little kindness’ and is based on a lesson plan which is available on the Mentally Healthy Schools platform. This platform was developed in collaboration with children’s mental health charity Place2Be and encourages children to explore ways in which they can show kindness and recognise the benefits of kindness to others.

Getting to see you all last week was amazing! I loved coming to see what you had been up to and I have missed all of your smiling faces. Not seeing you all over the last few months has been so hard! I have really missed us all being together as a class. Well done for all of your amazing hard work over the past few months. You should all be so proud of yourselves. I hope you enjoy the Summer holidays and make lots of memories with your family and friends. I will be waving through the Year 2 window in September.
We are really excited to inform you all that Side By Side Arts have managed to secure funding from the Big Local to allow them to provide 8 weeks of music scholarship to children in the Big Local Area. This will be for either piano, guitar or vocal tuition.
Side By Side Arts would like to offer up to 25 of these places to our pupils on a first come first serve basis.

You've made it to half term! What a surreal time it has been but we have loved looking at all of your home learning photos over the last few weeks! It really does put smiles on our faces. As it's half term, we will not be setting any home learning tasks. We want you to rest, spend time with your family and make more memories during lockdown! In addition to this, we will not be speaking to parents next week and will continue making calls home week commencing 1st June. As you all know, we love making these phone calls to check to see how you and your family are so we'll look forward to speaking to you all again soon! We hope you have a fabulous half term! Keep safe and continue smiling!
This weekend sees the beginning of Ramadan for our Muslim families. Mrs Mumtaz and Miss Simblet have very kindly put some activities together to help us all recognise this Islamic celebration. If you want to find out more information, there are plenty of informative websites but BBC Bitesize has a useful video you can watch. Make sure you send us some photographs if you do complete any of the tasks. Happy Ramadan everyone!

Hi Year 1D,
We are really missing not seeing your smiling faces each day! It has been lovely to see the pictures of what you have been up to. We love seeing how hard you are working and how much fun you are having. Please continue to send these pictures in Over the Easter holidays we would like you to have a break and have fun with your family. I have included a picture which shows 100 things to do indoors. Our challenge is to see how many you can complete over the two weeks. Please send us your pictures as we would love to see what you have been up to.

In Art we have been exploring lines, texture and the pressure we can apply. We listened to music which reminds us of waves and created our own masterpiece.
Wednesday 11th March
Today we have been taking part in a Science experiment. We had to work together to test a range of materials to see which would be the best to fix a broken umbrella. We chose plastic because it was strong and waterproof.
Friday 6th March
Today we have been celebrating International Women's Day. We listened to an assembly and found out all about important women from the past. We had a talk in the class and decided that our mams were very important to us. We spent the afternoon making pictures celebrating why our mams are so special.

In Geography we have been learning about the different areas of land. We have looked at a variety of pictures and sorted them into the countryside, seaside and a town/city. We then identified the different features of each place.
Tuesday 25th February
Today some of us took part in the KS1 Multi-Sport Festival. We got to take part in lots of events and work in teams. We had so much fun.

Monday 10th February
Today we braved Storm Ciara for some fun with our outdoor learning. We explored the outdoor area and the new equipment. We then made a village for all of the animals to live in.
Thursday 6th February
In our History lessons we have been learning about Grace Darling. We know that she is a local hero because she saved nine people from drowning. Today we have been looking the RNLI and how they help to keep us safe. We made our own video to show people how we can keep safe at the beach.

Tuesday 4th February
In our English lessons we have been reading the story of Cinderella. We listened to the story and then retold it by sequencing the pictures.
Wednesday 29th January
We went on our school trip today and found out about keeping safe. We spoke to a policeman, a lady who worked for the ambulance, a lady from a dog charity and a lady from the council. They spoke to use about how we can keep safe and what we should do if we are ever hurt or in trouble.

In Science we have been exploring the properties of different materials. We worked as a group to go on a material hunt together. We had so much fun!

We had such a fun day on Friday celebrating our fantastic news. We made puppet shows, danced, watched a film and had a brilliant disco.

In RE today, the children were learning about why the Jewish people say the Shema prayer. Look what they found out!

This week our class got to open our own special book suitcase! We were so excited to see what was inside. Grace was very lucky and she got to take the suitcase home to share with her family. We can't wait to find out all about her book.

We had so much fun on the last week of term! We all danced at our Christmas party and even got to meet Santa! Evelyn, Grace, Gul and Maylee then performed a fantastic dance for Brighton's got talent.

In English next term we will be looking at the book, ' I want my hat back.' We decided to make our own party hats. We had so much fun and made a big mess!

Within our RE lessons we have been learning about the Christmas story and why it is important to Christians. We thought it was important to show what Christians would say thank you to God for and wrote them onto a paper chain decoration for our classroom.

We have been learning how to warm our voices up before we sing. We had so much fun making silly faces and playing our warm up games.

In DT we have been making our own puppets. We used different joining techniques to create our final product. We had so much fun!
In Maths we we have been exploring numbers to 20. We have been looking at tens and ones.
School Nurse
Today we had a visit from the school nurse. We learnt all about hygiene and the importance of washing our hands.
Today we have been learning about Remembrance Day and why it is so important. We made our own poppies and took part in one minutes silence.

Today be have been having fun in the rain! We put on our waterproofs and went outside for a spooky treasure hunt. We collected pumpkin leaves, witches fingers and monster slime. We then had to explore the monsters slime to see what he had left us. He left us some yummy sweets! Finally we made our own broomsticks. We had so much fun!
