In computing we have been learning all about Microbots using the BBC Microbits. The children were able to create a code that can change the display. They had so much fun creating their own displays.
We have been celebrating World Book Day today in our school and what better way to chill out and read a book other than in our pajamas! All of the children came to school today wearing their comfiest set and they all looked incredible! In our class we have been taking part in world book day quizzes, making our own bookmarks and making fortune teller toys. The children had an amazing day!
In art this half term , we have been looking at retrofuturism, and imagining what the world would be like in the future. Using the image of 'Moonwalk' by Tiers Albers, we created a colographic print for our backgrounds, designed our artwork and repeated them using various, colours and styles. Below you can see some of the design processes and outcomes.
Stay & Play - Spring 1. Today we invited our Year 5 parents to join us in class whilst we were learning all about Online Safety. We would learn all about age restrictions and the S.M.A.R.T rules to help keep us safe. The feedback from the attending parents was amazing and we cannot wait to see you all again next time!
This term, we have been lucky to have another session with Muddy Monsters. This time, the children were able to make their own secure structures using the equipment available in our forest school. The children have such amazing imaginations that they came up with their own fairground!
This term, we are learning about our Solar System and the planets within it.
This week, year 5 have had a cricket taster session. It was great fun!
Marvellous Maths! This week the Y5 children are blowing the socks off their teachers feet by tackling some tricky reflection and translation of shape problems.
Well done to our new friend in the class, Lujain, on her pupil of the week for this week!. Lujain has recently joined class 5M and is starting to settle in nicely.

Our art unit this half term is entitled, ' I need Space'. We have been investigating how to create images using a range of equipment and different mediums.
Christmas Party Day!
We had an amazing time at the Great North Museum in Newcastle. We completed a Time Odyssey, solving lots of puzzles from the past.
This week the children have been learning all about volcanoes. During our English lesson they were tasked to find out as many facts as they could and add this information to their books. As you can see they all did amazing and now know quite a bit about volcanoes around the world.
We have been learning all about Armistice Day in school this week and our children were amazed to find out there are actually 4 different coloured poppies that represent all those lives lost in wars. To help us celebrate this day, the children have been decorating their own poppies for our window display. If you are collecting your child from school please feel free to have a look at it and let us know what you think!

As we head towards Half Term, the children have been creating some Halloween hand puppets and lanterns! Hopefully they help to keep away any spoooooooky spirits!
This week the children have been learning all about how well humans are responding to their responsibilities on Earth. All of our groups has some amazing points to make and were eager to share them with their friends.
Our final two pupils of the week for this half term are the amazing Rosie and Zachary, they have been working super hard in all their lessons this week!
In our science lesson today, we have been looking at variables when making predictions. The children made some predictions on which material would be the best thermal insulator when measuring the temperature of some water. The children could chose from tin foil, fleece, polyester and felt after a 10 minute wait the results were in and surprisingly the winner was FLEECE! A lot of the children predicted the best thermal insulator would have been tin foil so they were all taken by surprise.
Congratulations to our two pupils of the week for week 6! Julie and Radu have been amazing!
Today, Year 5M visited the local library where they were able to chose their favourite book to bring back to school with them! They have the opportunity to read this in class over the next few weeks. Whilst they were at the library, they also took part in a scavenger hunt around the books to see if they could get as many answers as possible. They all did an AMAZING job!
Congratulations to our most recent Pupils of the week! Jessica, Reena and Bryan. They have all been working extremely hard during their first few weeks in year 5 and are all very deserving of this award.
We are composers! - We have been composing rhythms that we can use with body percussion to provide an accompaniment for our sea shanty that we have been rehearsing.
The 26th of September is European day of languages and the children were celebrating this in school. Here at Brighton Avenue, we have many different languages spoken by our pupils and it was wonderful to see and hear our children discussing their language with their friends.
In RE, we have been thinking about people can be Christians and believe in the Big Bang Theory of how the universe was created. What do you think?
How did the young king Tutankhamun die? Was it disease, an accident, war or possibly murder? Year 5M have been trying to find out what really did happen to the boy behind the golden mask.
Well, its week 4 and we have started off with Muddy Monsters here in Year 5M. Today, we have learnt all about making knots to help them make our own shelters, swings, doors and even our very own noughts and crosses! Well done to Reena, Ihunanya, Jessica and Julie who were the eventual winners of the Tic Tac Toe game!
First Aid - Head Injuries. In week 3 for our PSHEC lesson, Year 5M have been learning all about head injuries and how they can treat them. They found it very interesting and of course they were all happy to take part in the practical!
Pupil of the week!
These two superstars have the honour of being the first to gain this award in the new school year. David has been amazing, working so hard and showing resilience, while Matina has been translating for a new member of our class with no English.
Congratulations to our pupils of the week for this week, Hooria and Muhammed. Hooria is an exceptionally hard worker in all her lessons and Mohammed has started to come out of his shell and assert himself more in his lesson. Well done to you both!
Year 5 have been studying the work of Chila Kumari Singh Burman, an artist famed for using multi -media in her artwork. We have made some amazing self-portraits, using some of her techniques.
