Reception B

Welcome to Reception, for some children the beginning of their schooling. We understand that this can be an exciting but nerve wracking time for both children and parents. Through this stage of their learning journey, the children will be learning through a balance of child-initiated play, carefully supported by knowledgeable staff and adult-initiated small group activities. They will be busy exploring and discovering exciting activities, both in and out of the classroom, including visits and visitors.

This website, Weduc and Tapestry, will keep you updated on all aspects of your child’s learning.

We have been looking at the concept floating and sinking in small group and recycling. In maths, we reviewed mass and capacity from Autumn term and the compositions of 6, 7 and 8. We celebrated all of our amazing Pupils of the Week! on Friday, we wore Red clothes to raise money for blood cancer research.

What an amazing start we've had to 2026! In maths, we have continued to look at different compositions of numbers 0-5 and extend our subitising knowledge. In RWI, we have continue to practise our sounds and CVC words, we have also began to read and write sentences! Our spring topic theme is transport, in small group we have looked at Rattletrap Car and the Christian story of Noah's Ark. We have introduced drawing club sessions and the children have loved showing off their creativity skills! And finally, we celebrated have our first 2 Pupils of the Week!

What a fantastic way to end Autumn term! The children performed in their nativity production and they were all absolutely amazing, they made us very proud like they always do! We enjoyed lots of fun end of term activities and made lots of memories together. We can't wait to see what 2026 holds for Reception B - see you next year!

This week, we enjoyed playing in the snow and decorating our classroom for Christmas! In small group we began to look at the story of the first Christmas, the Nativity. We also began some Christmas crafts.

Last week in small group we looked at the Hindu festival of Diwali, we made our own Diya lamps and celebrated by lighting them altogether as a class! This week we looked at a firework painting called the fallen rocket by James Whistler, then made our own inspired version of the painting. We celebrated Remembrance Day by making poppies for our windows and we decorated poppy biscuits to take home. We also celebrated Children in Need day with Pudsey.

As part of Harvest, we learned where flour comes from and we made our own bread. In maths we have been looking at subitising numbers and in RWI we have began to spell CVC words. We have been continuing to form lovely friendships in Reception! We also experienced going to Muddy Monsters with Phil for the very first time, we had lots of fun exploring and cannot wait to go back!

In maths we have looked at measuring and in RWINC we are learning our set one sounds and are listening to initial sounds and Fred talk. We have been doing autumnal activities in our outside areas. In small group we looked at different types of houses and talked about who lives in our house. We also had a special visit from Wendy the nurse!

We have continued to access the Reception environment both inside and outside. In small group, we have been learning how to play in the home corner and cut and stick areas. We have been looking at matching and sorting in maths. In RWInc we are beginning to listen to sounds in words and mark make.

What a fantastic first two weeks we've had settling into our new class! We've started to get to know our environment and have begun to make lots of memories and new friends. We can't wait to see what we get up to this year!
