Fortnight beginning 1st December 2025

We've had a brilliant couple of weeks in Year 1MT! We had a Muddy Monsters session in forest school which was great fun - and came with extra mud! We shone when demonstrating our team work skills!

We were also lucky enough to have Mel from NUSTEM visit us to carry out a Naval Architects workshop with us and some of our adults. She showed us the skills that a Naval Architect needs, and we explored the best way to make a boat float and carry a load. Thank you to our parents who came into the family session - it was brilliant to have you in school.

Our adults also came for a stay and play session where we got to create Christmas crafts and 2026 calendars together, we had so much fun! Thank you again to everyone who attended.

Pupils of the week 5th December 2025

Shahira and Willow have been blowing us away with their amazing efforts and work ethic recently. Shahira has been improving her writing techniques and showing us how to write an amazing character description, your hard work is paying of Shahira keep it up! Willow has also been working hard in her lessons but has been setting an amazing example of how to be a kind and caring friend. Well done girls, we're so proud of you both!

Our trip to Safety Works 27th November 2025

We had such a fun morning at Safety Works! We took part in the following different sessions -

- Road safety - how to cross a road safely as well as the risks around a road - ask your children about the 4 steps to road safety - "Stop, Look, Listen, Think"

- Fire safety - learning about the different fire risks around our home, and what to do if there is a fire (Call out, Get Out, Call the Fire Brigade Out)

- Railway/metro safety - the different risks around railway and metro lines, as well as how to stay safe.

- Open water safety - how to spot dangers around open water, what to do if we are in trouble in water, and how to help someone else in trouble.

- Wellbeing session where we learnt how to recognise different emotions and regulate our emotions through different breathing activities.

Thank you so much to our parent helpers for coming with us to help keep our children safe during the visit!

Week beginning 17th November 2025

This week we celebrated STEAM week by taking part in a Design Technology day, thinking about careers in the industry and designed and made our very own windmills! We look at what sort of jobs are involved in engineering older style windmills and modern day wind turbines to create our own, we did a great job and shared some great design ideas!

Pupils of the week 21st November 2025

Wow! Akila and McGarrett have been blowing us away recently with their amazing attitude towards learning. Both children have been working so hard and it really shows in what they have been producing in all of their subjects. Well done, we are very proud of you both!

Week beginning 3rd November 2025

Welcome back after the half term break! Year 1 have been having fun exploring multiplication in Maths, and in English we have continued to focus on sentence structure and punctuation, using the traditional tale "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" for inspiration.

In Religious Education this half term we will be looking into the Christian celebration of Christmas. We started the unit by learning about the story of the Nativity and had lots of fun acting out what Christians believe happened during the story.

We also had so much fun when Sab from the Royal Institution visited to carry out an "Explosive Foods" Science show!

Pupils of the week 7th November 2025

We are so impressed with Minha and Dillan this week! Minha gives 100% in everything she does and in a fantastic role model both in class and around school, we couldn't ask for more! Dillan also gives 100% in everything he does and has such a positive attitude towards learning. That gorgeous smile lights up our day Dillan!

Week beginning 6th October 2025

We had a fab trip to Gateshead Library this week! We shared stories, took part in a scavenger hunt with our partners, searching the books to find the items and then got to choose some books to take with us back to school. Reading is one of our favourite things to do as a class so we had lot's of fun!

Pupils of the week Friday 10th October 2025

A huge well done to our superstar pupils of the week Zuhaa and Jenson! Zuhaa has been showing she is resilient by challenging herself to keep improving in all areas and we are super proud of her achievements! Jenson has been doing the same, showing us he loves to achieve what he has set out to do and has blown our socks off with some amazing counting too!

Week beginning 22nd September 2025

In maths, we have started counting in multiples of 10 and explored 1 more and 1 less than a given number: we are super stars at this! In English, we have looked at a range of ‘recommended reads’, e.g., What if, Pig? and Ruby’s Worries, then began to write simple sentences using capital letters and full stops. In PE (Physical Education), we are exploring being champion gymnasts!

Today, we've also enjoyed European Languages Day, where Miss Chelmowska read us a story in Polish, then Mathilde and a KS2 child visited our class to read to us in French!

Pupils of the Week Friday 26th September 2025

Well done to our superstars who were chosen for always being amazing role models in Year 1 with a wonderful work ethic and giving 100% every day: everyone is so proud of you both!

Week beginning 15th September 2025

This week, the children have been very busy within all of their lessons. We have been out exploring in the Forest school area observing the different types of leaves for Science. We have been deciding if we think the trees are deciduous or evergreen by looking at their leaves.

In maths, we have been counting on from a given number (forwards and backwards) - we are super stars at this! In English, we have been unscrambling sentences to make them make sense.

Week beginning 8th September 2025

WOW! What a great start to the year for Y1MT! We have had such a busy first couple of weeks in class. We have created fantastic pieces of art using different media to draw objects and started our lessons! We have been out exploring the community next to our school grounds in Geography, and we observed the different types of trees in our school to help us with our Science lesson. It hasn't been all work and no play, that's for sure. We have had fun in Muddy Monsters with Phil and taken part in First Aid Week!

To finish the week off, our first two children to receive Pupil of the week are Wallace and Zahra. Wallace has received his award for his fantastic knowledge on how water can look different colours and how it can take on the form of different shapes! We were blown away by his accurate answers. Zahra has received her award for settling into our school and Y1MT. She has made new friends and settled in really nicely.  Well done to you both!
