Year 3SW

Welcome to Year 3W

Welcome to the class where learning, laughter, and shared experiences can be found. This academic year promises an vast amount of opportunities for growth and discovery, ensuring that each moment is a stepping stone towards personal and academic excellence.

This year, Year 3W will be immersed in a whirlwind of challenges and creative ventures, designed to ignite their imaginations and push the boundaries of their learning. Collaboration will be at the heart of our learning as we navigate through a maze of exploration and thinking.

We encourage our children to show resilience and we shall nurture a classroom where every individual is cherished, and each contribution is celebrated.  Let's make this year in Year 3 unforgettable!

Make sure to check out the website weekly to see what exciting things we have been up to.

Pupil of the Fortnight - Friday 14th November 2025

Khloe has been amazing in Maths.  She was able to use mental methods to add and subtract single digit numbers.

Jake has made great progress in his handwriting.  He has worked hard to improve it and is so close to gaining his pen licence.

Well done to both children.

Week Beginning 3rd November 2025

It has been a busy start to Autumn 2.  The children started the term with Forest School and were taught how to tie different knots so they could make a den.  Later on in the week, the children were visited by Eve from the Alive Church.  She came in to take to the children of the importance of water in Christianity.  This week was also Green Careers Week.  They researched lots of different green careers and then drew a picture of a career they were interested in.

Pupil of the Fortnight - Friday 23rd October

What great work from these two boys this fortnight!

Wael was amazing during our work on fractions.  He was able to identify and shade in fractions of shapes.

Kenny was fantastic during our art lessons.  He listened carefully and was able to apply his sketching skills to draw artwork in the style of a prehistoric artist.

Week beginning 6th October

The children had a fantastic trip to the Great North Museum this week.  They took part in a workshop where they were able to handle fossils that were millions of years old!  They also had the opportunity to explore the Prehistoric Gallery and were challenged to find some of the artefacts in the museum.  They learnt lots of facts about the Stone Age.

In English, the children are studying news reports and have been reporters for Look North reporting on various local events.  They are now in the process of writing a news report about a mysterious, marine mammal that has been washed up on a beach.

Pupil of the Fortnight - Friday 3rd October

These two boys have really excelled in their first extended writing of the year.  Muhammad was able to include dialogue and adventurous words to bring his story to life.  Jackson ensured that he also included exciting words and try hard to spell all of his works correctly.

Well done to both children!

Week Beginning 22nd September 2025

This week the children have been investigation rocks.  They carried out experiments to find out which rocks were porous and which rock was the hardest.  They work well in their groups, communicating what they found out with each other.  In Maths, the children had the opportunity to apply what they knew about place value into solving reasoning questions.  The children have continue to find out more about the Stone Age and used this information to write a story about a boy who travelled back in time.

Pupil of the Fortnight - 19th September 2025

Mayasa was able to draw and paint a picture in the style of Charlie Rogers.

Jay has settled well into Year 3 and is able to signal if he needs help with his work.

Well done to both of these children!

Week Beginning 1st September 2025

What a great start to Year 3!  The children were all a little nervous when they came through the door, however by the end of the day they left with huge smiles and full of excitement!  This week the children have been looking at the art work of the local artist Charlie Rogers.  They were quick to recognise some of the places he had painted during his lifetime and were very keen to paint in his style.  We also had a visitor who told the children lots of interesting facts about his life.  Next week the children will be able to see the original artwork when they go to the exhibition at Gateshead Library.
