Welcome to Year 2B class page.
We have the recipe for success!
Take a group of enthusiastic children and add together caring and supportive teachers (don’t
forget to add teaching assistants!). Pour in lots of challenging and fun activities and sprinkle with excellent manners and behaviour. Stir until learning and progress is outstanding! Voila…a fantastic Year 2!
Join us on our fabulous learning journey as we use our skills to learn about our world in the past, present and future so that we can become valuable citizens of modern Britain.
Last week in English, the children read Nathan Bryon’s second story, Clean Up!. In groups, they discussed what the book’s main character, Rocket, could do to help solve the problem of rubbish on the beaches.
Later in the week, we practised writing setting descriptions before completing our first extended write, where we wrote our own version of the story. Miss Brown was blown away by how amazing the children’s writing was! We were incredibly proud of the creativity, detail and effort they put into their work. 🌟
This week, we have been learning to identify the features of instructions and thinking carefully about how instructions are structured.
In Maths, we have been learning how to find fractions of shapes and fractions of amounts. This week, we have moved on to developing our fluency in recalling number facts and adding ones and tens to a two-digit number.
In RE, we explored how Christians view God. The children then created beautiful stained-glass windows to represent their ideas about God. We were so impressed with the thought and creativity that went into each design! 🌈✨
This week, our pupil of the week were Jack and Renata. Jack has had an excellent start to Year 2 and has blown my socks off with his work ethic. He has settled into Year 2 beautifully. Renata has been trying really hard to compose her sentences and then write them independently. You are both super stars! A HUGE well done to you both!
We've had another two very busy weeks in school. The children have been working so incredibly hard and we are so proud of them. In English, we have continued writing at the book 'Look Up' and 'Clean Up' which is written by the same author. The children took part in an oracy lesson where they had to describe the characters in the story using noun phrases and then look on their bingo board to see if they had them. The children loved playing this and were able to come up with some fantastic noun phrases which they were then able to use in their writing.
In PSHE+ C, the children have learned about the importance of first aid and were able to identify what should be in a first aid kit and how we can help people when they are injured or poorly. The children were great at working collaboratively on this and were able to justify the reasons as to what we needed to use in certain situations.
In Maths, we have continued with place value -looking at number sequences and the children were able to recognise different patterns using their multiplication knowledge. This week, we have been learning about fractions and thinking carefully about how we can split a shape in half and quarters evenly.
Wow, wow, wow!!! What an AMAZING start to Year 2 all the children have had! The children have all settled in beautifully and we are so proud of every single one of them! In the first week, we started by looking at an artist Romare Bearden and the children created an amazing collage based on the Angel of the North. The children began the unit by learning about primary and secondary colours and how to colour mix. We then moved on to finding different textures in our forest school and classroom and used these textures to make textured paper. Finally, the children then had to rip up the paper to create their collage which I was absolutely blown away with! I'm sure you will also agree we have some artists in the making!
In maths, we have been learning about the place value of numbers by using a range of concrete resources and the children have been deepening their understanding of tens and ones. In English, we have been looking at the book 'Look up' and we have been developing our speaking and listening skills by playing games of bingo to think of noun phrases to describe the characters.
We've also had an exciting trip to Saltwell Park where we were looking at living things and we were able to spot lots of different things. The children had a fantastic time at the park and we had beautiful weather.
Our first two pupil of the weeks this academic year are Darcy and Stevi. Darcy is an absolutely joy to have in class and she always gives 100% effort in everything she does. She has been great at helping me to do lots of jobs around the classroom. Stevi has been amazing in maths and reading and has tried really hard in everything he does. You are both absolute super stars!!
