Join us on our wonderful adventure as we navigate our way across the sea of successes, over the waves of wonder, through the forests of fascination and beyond the desert of discovery.
This year 2 trip of a lifetime promises an all-inclusive, supportive and nurturing journey full of enriching, exciting learning experiences where every child thrives and succeeds.
Follow our journey regularly and sail amongst the stars that are the children of year 2!

Last week in English, the children read Nathan Bryon’s second story, Clean Up!. In groups, they discussed what the book’s main character, Rocket, could do to help solve the problem of rubbish on the beaches.
Later in the week, we practised writing setting descriptions before completing our first extended write, where we wrote our own version of the story. Miss Dodds was blown away by how amazing the children’s writing was! We were incredibly proud of the creativity, detail and effort they put into their work. 🌟
This week, we have been learning to identify the features of instructions and thinking carefully about how instructions are structured.
In Maths, we have been learning how to find fractions of shapes and fractions of amounts. This week, we have moved on to developing our fluency in recalling number facts and adding ones and tens to a two-digit number.
In RE, we explored how Christians view God. The children then created beautiful stained-glass windows to represent their ideas about God. We were so impressed with the thought and creativity that went into each design! 🌈✨
This would work really well as a weekly parent/class newsletter update.
🌟🌟 Well done Nia and Andy our two pupils of the week. Nia you are such a delight to have in the class and have been trying really hard with all of your learning. Andy, you have grown in confidence and it has been great to see you joining in with while class lessons by putting your hand up to answer questions. You are such an amazing boy. 🌟🌟
What a FANTASTIC start to Year 2 we have had! 🌟
It has been such a wonderful first few weeks, and Miss Helm and I are so pleased at how brilliantly the children have settled into their new classroom. They have shown such enthusiasm, work ethic and kindness, and are a wonderful cohort . ❤️
We have had a fantastic start to our Art unit, where we have been learning about the artist Romare Bearden.
The children began by exploring primary and secondary colours and experimenting with colour mixing. They then became texture detectives, searching our classroom and Forest School for interesting textures. We used these textures to create our very own textured paper. The children then used their creativity to rip, arrange and layer their paper to create amazing collages inspired by the Angel of the North. The finished artwork was fantastic, and we were absolutely blown away by their creativity! 🎨✨
In Maths, we have been learning all about place value. The children have been using a range of apparatus to help them understand numbers and develop their knowledge of tens and ones. They have moved on to more abstract methods of partitioning, comparing and ordering. They have worked incredibly hard and are showing increasing confidence already to work more independnetly! 👏
In English, we have been enjoying the fantastic book Look Up! by Nathan Byron. The children have been developing their speaking and listening skills through lots of fun and engaging activities. We particularly enjoyed playing bingo to generate noun phrases to describe the characters. The children came up with some fantastic vocabulary and have really enjoyed sharing their ideas with one another. 📖✨
We also enjoyed a fantastic trip to Saltwell Park, where we became wildlife explorers and investigated living things in the environment around us. The children spotted lots of different living things and loved exploring the park with their friends. (see photos below) ☀️🌳
Thank you so much to the parents who accompanied us on the trip- it's always very much appreciated.
We are delighted to announce that our first two Pupils of the Week this academic year are...
🌟 Damien and McGarrett! 🌟
McGarrett is such a joy to have in our class! He is kind, helpful and always looks out for his friends. He is a caring and thoughtful member of our class and is always ready to lend a helping hand. His lovely smile brightens up our classroom every day! 🌟😊❤️
Damien has made an excellent start to Year 2! He is such an enthusiastic and hardworking boy who always tries his very best. Damien is also incredibly compassionate and loving, and he has won the hearts of Miss helm and myself. ❤️
Damien will be starting at a new school next week. We were all very sad to say goodbye, as he will be missed so much by everyone in our class and throughout the school. However, we know that Damien will settle in brilliantly, make lots of new friends and continue to shine! Good luck at your new school, Damien! We will miss you and wish you lots of happiness and success on your new adventure! 🌟❤️
