Year 5

Spring 2026

In the first half of Spring the children have learned more about some artefacts and symbols that are used in Judaism. They have learned about the Aron Kodesh, what the Star of David represents, and the four sounds of the Shofar, as well as why a lot of Jewish people keep the "words of God" at the entrance to their homes.

The children have then explored what if they don't believe in a God or deity. They have learnt about Humanism and what Atheists, Agnostics and Theists believe, and thought about what kind of life they want to live and whether it's possible to be spiritual without believing in a deity or god.

Autumn 2025

In Autumn Year 5 have taken a deep dive into the themes of Religion vs Science - do the two concepts contradict each other, or are they able to compliment each other? They have explored what responsibility they believe humans have for the Earth, and how well they believe humans are responding to these responsibilities.

In the second half of Autumn the children explored who Mahatma Gandhi was, and why he was so important to many Hindus. They learned about his life, his goals for India, and how he changed the world, as well as what values some followers of Hindus take from the teachings of Gandhi.
