We've had a busy few weeks in Y6! We had a lovely trip to the library where we picked books to read for pleasure. The children's behaviour was impeccable with a member of the public even stopping us to comment on how well-mannered the children were. The children have been enthralled with the books they chose - it's been hard to get them to put them down!!

w.c. 21.9.26 - Science and Maths

What a brilliant few weeks we've had in Y6! In Science, we've continued exploring our circulatory system, thinking about HOW we can keep our hearts healthy and WHY it is so important to keep them healthy. We looked at different aerobic and strength exercises we could do before designing our own circuits! Check us out giving them a go!! 

In Maths, we've been practising our addition and subtraction skills. We've been looking at effective strategies we can use when adding large numbers mentally. Our strategies were brilliant and we've been getting quicker and quicker with our calculations. Well done!

w.c. 21.09.26 - Cricket Workshop!

We were visited by a coach from Durham Cricket Club this week who led a very exciting cricket workshop. We practised our skills when catching using two hands before progressing onto one hand which was a lot trickier than it looked! We then spend some time playing some games in teams. There was some brilliant batting and fielding demonstrated - definitely some future cricketers here!!

Durham Cricket Club will be running weekly cricket sessions at Gateshead Leisure Centre for those interested in taking this sport up outside of school! 

School Council Class Representatives 

Congratulations to James and Maliah who beat out stiff competition to be voted as our school council members for this year. I was so impressed with the maturity in which everyone approached their speeches with so many amazing ideas being shared! I'm sure James and Maliah will represent our class admirably.

Wow! What an amazing first few weeks back we have had! The children have settled into life in Y6 wonderfully! We began our time in class together by studying a few prominent arts: John Singer Sargent and David Hockney. We studied some of their most famous works and used our drama skills to recreate them! Don't they look amazing!

In Maths, we have started recapping our place value skills, working together to compare and order numbers up to 10 million! In English, we've been using the book Rainplayer to create rich setting descriptions. I was so impressed with the children's vocabulary! Have a look at what we've been up to:
